Gavy-Perez Torres has been named Pecos League Mountain Division MVP.

Gavy hit .364 with 13 HRs. He had 74 rbis with 18 Stolen bases. He was every day shortstop and three hole hitter for the Pecos League Champion Tucson Saguaros.

Gavy is from Roswell, NM and was an Invaders fan as a kid. He and played high school baseball at Joe Bauman Stadium for Roswell High. He then went to play a junior college season at NMMI before moving to University of Southwest in Hobbs and Lubbock Christian.

The Tucson Saguaros broke open a one-run game by scoring four times in the bottom of the eighth, then held off visiting San Rafael in the top of the ninth to clinch the 2025 Pecos League Championship Series with an 11-7 win over the Pacifics Monday night at Tucsons Kino Memorial Stadium. The Saguaros rebounded from Saturdays series-opening loss to win the best-of-3 title set, 2 games to 1, for their first flag since 2021.

After a scoreless first inning, San Rafael posted four runs in the top of the second, highlighted by an Aki Buckson double that brought Payton Rios home. Tucson responded with three counters of their own in the bottom of the frame as Hal Perezs double scored Mike Whalen from second. The Saguaros tied the game in the third when Whalen singled in Gavy Perez-Torres and took a 5-4 lead in the fourth as Marquise Wood sliced a James Courson pull-count pitch for a single that scored Perez from third.

The Pacifics pulled back ahead in the top of the fifth after Chris Wrights two-out, two-run homer off reliever Blake Garrett made it a 6-5 contest. Garrett took matters into his own hand in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run triple to put the Saguaros back in front, 7-6, and Tucson scored four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as Jacob Elizondo, Perez-Torres and Yan Rivera contributed RBI singles with four San Rafael pitchers taking the mound in the frame. Kyle Guerra doubled Wood home from first with two down in the top of the ninth to bring the Pacifics within four runs before Treshon Paschal struck out John Bicos on three pitches to end the game, series and season with a Tucson win and pennant.

Elizondo had three singles for the Saguaros while Perez added two hits, scoring three times and driving in two more, while Elizondo and Perez-Torres each added a pair of singles; Buckson, Guerra and Wright had two hits apiece for the Pacifics with Buckson scoring three runs and Wright finishing with two ribbies. Garrett earned the win with three innings of one-run pitching out of the bullpen while Jake Dent, who gave up the two fifth-inning Cacti runs in relief, was tagged with the loss.

Tucsons pitching came up clutch by blanking San Rafael over the last four innings after the potent Pacific Division champs had put 31 runs on the scoreboard over the first 23 innings of the championship series as the Pacifics were thwarted in their attempt at a second Pecos League crown in three seasons.

The Tucson Saguaros overcame a late one-run deficit by scoring four times in the eighth inning and held on to top the visiting San Rafael Pacifics, 16-13, Sunday night at Kino Stadium in Arizona to tie the 2025 Pecos League Championship Series at one win apiece in a good old-fashioned shootout that saw the two teams combine for 29 runs on 34 hits while sending eleven men to the mound.

The Pacifics drew first blood with two runs in the top of the second inning when Mark Hernandez came around from first to score on a double off Tucson starter Jaymon Cervantes by Fred Buckson, who later crossed the plate on Keith Whitakers single. John Bicos subsequently brought in both Whitaker and Aki Buckson with a two-run double to make it a 4-0 San Rafael lead. The Saguaros scored three in the bottom of the second as veteran Pacifics starter Alex Valasek struggled with his control and balked in both Antonio Fernandez and Brian Ledezma before serving up an RBI single to Marquise Wood.

The two sides exchanged two-run frames in the third as RBI singles from San Rafaels Hernandez and Payton Rios in the top of the inning were answered by similar safeties from the Saguaros Anthony Manisero and Mike Whalen in the bottom, chasing Valasek in the process, to cut the visitors lead to 6-5. After Manisero drove in Wood for Tucson in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, the Saguaros broke loose with five runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to create a 12-6 advantage. San Rafael did not lay down, however, putting three runs on the scoreboard (two on a Jorge Rios-Lopez single) and loading the bases with one out before Tucson closer Ian Lanik made an early entrance to the mound.

Lanik received a rude greeting from the Pacifics Gino Hutchinson, who drilled his first pitch for a two-run double. One out later, Chris Wright repeated Hutchinsons feat by rapping a two-run two-bagger of his own to cap a seven-run seventh as San Rafael regained the lead, 13-12, but Tucson put together four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead back and Treshon Paschal retired the Pacifics side in order in the ninth to close out the comeback Saguaros victory.

Wood led the Saguaros with three hits and three RBIs and Jacob Elizondo also had three hits with two ribbies while Wright, Hernandez and Fred Buckson combined for nine hits and four RBIs on San Rafaels behalf. Jesse Palafox tossed a scoreless eighth to earn the win for Tucson while outfielder Aki Buckson was pressed into relief duties and gave up the four Cacti runs in the eighth to suffer the loss for the Pacifics.

The third and deciding game of the best-of-three title series is scheduled for Kino Stadium on Monday night at 7:00PM local time.

Any concerns that the San Rafael Pacifics might be rusty after a week-long layoff were quickly dispelled as the Pacific Division titlists topped the Mountain Division kingpin Tucson Saguaros, 12-9, in Saturdays opening game of the 2025 Pecos League Championship Series at Kino Stadium in Arizona. The Pacifics had been idle after eliminating Dublin on August 1 while the Saguaros needed to knock out both Pecos and Garden City over the past week to reach the last series of the season. San Rafael put Tucson in an early hole by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, keyed by a two-run Chris Wright single and Fred Bucksons two-run double. The Saguaros came back in the bottom of the first with three counters of their own, featuring RBI singles by Anthony Manisero and Brian Ledezma. The two teams traded runs in the second frame before the Pacifics posted three more tallies in the top of the third to raise their lead to 9-4 as Wright stroked another two-run single. Tucson kept fighting back but were unable to get closer than three runs to San Rafael the rest of the way, although Hal Perezcame to the plate with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the ninth before hitting a runner with a base hit live ball to end the game..

Fred Buckson led San Rafael with three hits and as many RBIs, Aki Buckson had three hits of his own and scored twice while Wright finished with two hits and four ribbies. Manisero and Jacob Elizondo each collected three hits for Tucson while Ledezma and Marquise Wood both homered in a losing cause.

The two sides will converge on Kino Stadium for Game 2 Sunday night at 7:00PM local time. San Rafael seeks their second Pecos League pennant in three years while Tucson is looking for a fourth flag, the last one coming in 2021.

The Tucson Saguaros completed a two-game road sweep in Garden City Thursday with a 9-5 win over the Wind at Clint Lightner Field, clinching the Pecos Leagues Mountain Division title series and securing a berth in the League Championship Series against Pacific Division champs San Rafael in Arizona. As in Wednesdays series opener, Tucson jumped out to an early lead with Gavy Perez-Torres singling Jacob Elizondo home in the top of the first inning. The Saguaros added three tallies in the third as Elizondo crashed a two-run homer and then tacked on three more in the fourth when Antonio Fernandez detonated a solo bomb and Marquise Wood stroked a two-run double to give the Cacti a 7-0 lead.

Garden City pushed three counters of their own in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by a Jacob Talamante homer and Rob Morosetti scoring from third on a successful double steal. The two teams traded runs in the fifth, with Tucsons Anthony Manisero coming in on Brian Ledezmas sacrifice fly followed by the Winds Kaleb Scull scoring on a Talamante double to cut the Saguaros lead to 8-4. Perez-Torres homered for an insurance run in the ninth, since no lead is safe in the Pecos League, but while Morosetti singled in Jason Rooks from third in the bottom of the ninth it wasnt early enough for the Wind as the Saguaros closed out the game and series.

Wood collected four hits for Tucson while Fernandez finished with three safeties; Talamante, Scull, Dominic Enbody and Secundio Morales each had two hits for Garden City. The Saguaros now travel back to Tucson for Saturdays best-of-3 league championship set against San Rafael at Kino Stadium.

The Saguaros ran out to a 6-0 lead, featuring four runs in the second inning capped by a Gavy Perez Torres two-run homer, before Adam Purdys three-run roundtripper put Garden City on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Singles by Rob Morosetti and Pierce Khan produced runs one inning later to bring the Wind to within a score of tying the game until the top of the sixth, when the Saguaros Marquise Wood singled, stole second and took third on an errant throw by catcher Dominic Enbody before motoring home on a Jacob Elizondo single to give Tucson a 7-5 advantage. The Cacti posted four more runs in the top of the eighth as Anthony Manisero contributed an RBI single to take an 11-5 lead and close the night"s scoring.

Elizondo finished the night with four hits and three RBIs while Manisero, Mike Whalen and starting pither Miles Longoria each had a pair of safeties for Tucson. Jacob Talamante led Garden City with three hits and Morosetti and Khan chipped in with two hits apiece. Longoria took the pitching win as Ian Lanik held the Wind scoreless over the final two frames.Cutter Smith was tagged with the loss for Garden City. The two teams will meet Thursday night for Game 2. The winner of the best-of-3 series will take on the San Rafael Pacifics for the Pecos League title beginning this weekend.

He threw 73.2 innings for LeMoyne College in New York in 2024.

Kino Stadium will host the MLB Sanc

Kino Stadium will host the MLB Sanctioned World Baseball Classic Qualifier March 2-3-4-6.

Because of this event they now have a working scoreboard and four pitch clocks. The Tucson Saguaros played the entire 2024 season without a scoreboard and had to play on the road in the playoffs due to construction of this scoreboard.

The ballpark is in the best shape it has ever been and the staff at Kino will do a great job with this event.

Kino Stadium is the premier baseball Stadium available to Independent Baseball in the United States. Kino Stadium hosted the Pecos League Championship Series in 2016 and 2022. The Tucson Saguaros have called Kino Stadium home since 2016. Teams are as follows: China, Germany, Brazil and Colombia
