Saguaros Rally Past Triggers, 8-6

The Tucson Saguaros erased a three-run deficit with a three-run eighth inning and defeated the Trinidad Triggers 8-6 on July 29 in Trinidad.

Tucson scored first in the second inning when Angel Faras doubled and later crossed the plate after Connor Kiefer reached on an error. Trinidad answered in the bottom half on an RBI single by Imanol Ramos, and Brody Rasmussen gave the Triggers a 2-1 lead with a solo home run in the third.

The Saguaros moved back in front in the fourth. Jaymon Cervantes walked, Kiefer singled and Sloan Laird was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Trent Mallonee drew a bases-loaded walk, and Kiefer scored on a wild pitch to give Tucson a 3-2 advantage.

Trinidad responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Chris Viamonte, Bryce Hayman, Wyatt Morgan and Jeremiah Cabuyban each drove in a run as the Triggers built a 6-3 lead.

Kiefer cut the deficit to one in the fifth with a two-run home run that scored Faras. Tucson then completed the comeback in the eighth. Kiefer singled, stole second and scored on Laird's RBI single to tie the game at 6-6. After Mallonee walked and the bases were loaded, Faras drew a run-scoring walk and Will Thomas followed with another bases-loaded walk to put Tucson ahead 8-6.

The Triggers threatened in the ninth when Rasmussen walked and Morgan singled. Adan Vega entered with two runners aboard and retired the next three hitters, striking out Will Hudler and Kelii Price to finish the victory.

Kiefer led Tucson by going 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Faras also had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Laird collected three hits and one RBI, while Mallonee finished with two hits, two walks and an RBI.

Jaymon Cervantes worked eight innings for Tucson, allowing six runs, four earned, on 14 hits while striking out nine. Vega pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts. Trinidad used seven pitchers and issued eight walks in the game.
