7/19/2026-Tucson Saguaros Survive Late Pecos Rally for 9-8 Victory

The Tucson Saguaros built a nine-run lead and survived a furious comeback by the Pecos Bills to earn a 9-8 victory on July 19, 2026.

After three scoreless innings, Tucson opened the scoring in the fourth when Ty Murray crossed the plate on a passed ball. The Saguaros then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning before adding two more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Tucson carried a 9-0 advantage into the bottom of the eighth, but the Bills refused to go quietly. Pecos scored three runs in the eighth and five more in the ninth, pulling within one run before the Saguaros finally ended the rally.

The Saguaros collected 11 hits in the victory. Sloan Laird went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Gavy Perez-Torres finished with two hits, including a double, one run and one RBI. Trent Malone added two hits, one run, one RBI, a walk and a stolen base.

Ty Murray scored twice and reached base with a hit and a walk. Connor Kiefer recorded a hit, walked once and scored two runs. Cedric Reynaud, Hal Perez and Matthew Mejia also contributed hits for Tucson.

Demitrius DiMatteo started on the mound for the Saguaros and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out three. Matthew Mejia followed with three innings and struck out four. Pecos scored its eight runs against the Tucson bullpen over the final two innings.

Derrick Cancel led the Pecos comeback by going 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored. Auden Venegas collected two hits and drove in two runs, while Chris Bedgood went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.

Anthony Hampton scored twice and drove in a run. Levi Masloski doubled and scored, while Keelen Sloan recorded a hit, a walk and a run. The Bills finished with 11 hits and six walks.

Isais Espiritusanto started for Pecos and allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits over five innings. Thomas Geiger pitched the final four innings and allowed three runs while striking out four.

Both teams finished with 11 hits and committed one error. Tucson's nine unanswered runs proved just enough to withstand Pecos' eight-run rally over the final two innings.
