ALPINE, Texas — May 26, 2026 — The Alpine Cowboys opened their season with an 11-10 win over the Tucson Saguaros, holding off a late Tucson push in a back-and-forth offensive game.
Alpine scored in each of the first six innings, building an early lead before Tucson erupted for three runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth. The Cowboys answered with three runs in the sixth inning, which proved to be the difference.
Luke Hyzdu led Alpine’s offense, going 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Trevor Durr added three hits and three RBIs, while Jayden Terres drove in two runs. Xavien Thompson also had two hits and an RBI for the Cowboys.
Tucson was powered by Mike Blackiston, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Diego Zuniga added three hits and two RBIs, and Jack Kalisky finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Jesse Garcia earned the win for Alpine with a scoreless inning of relief, and Daylan Bower recorded the save by striking out five over the final two innings. Justin Mireles took the loss for Tucson.
Alpine finished with 11 runs on 16 hits and one error. Tucson scored 10 runs on 12 hits and committed two errors.
